Coastal Oceanography and Sediment Sampling Services

ADH staff are very experienced at performing water quality monitoring projects in difficult conditions requiring careful planning, skill and attention to health and safety. (Grab sample collection performed at the Pacific Ocean for a dye dilution study)
ADH staff has considerable experience and expertise in research vessel operations required for oceanographic sampling and monitoring programs. (Vibracoring in San Francisco)

ADH staff has experience providing technical expertise, evaluation and development of many aspects related to performing these studies including, but not limited, to the following:

  • Ocean, In-Bay, Upland Reuse and/or Disposal Evaluations
    • Analytical Chemistry, Modified Elutriate Test, Modified Waste Extraction and Toxicity Data performed by ELAP and NELAP certified laboratories
    • ADDAMS Modeling
    • Sediment Budgets
    • Sediment Transport Modeling
    • Sand Mining
  • Dye Studies
  • Current Metering Studies
  • Ocean Observatories
    • Buoys
    • Moorings
  • Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAPs)
  • Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs)
  • Boat and Barge Operations
    • Research Vessels
    • Support Vessels
  • Dredge Material Sampling (On-and Off-shore)
    • Vibracoring
    • Gravity Coring
    • Drilling
    • Grabs (Smith/Mac, VanVeen, and Box Core)
  • Subsurface Soil Sampling, Characterization and Reporting
  • Elutriate Sample Collection
  • In-situ Water Quality Monitoring
    • Conductivity, Temperature, Depth, pH, and Dissolved Oxygen (CTD) Profiling

Sediment dredge materials placement suitability projects are performed in accordance with respective State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) and Regional Quality Control Board (RWQCB) waste discharge requirements (WDRs), the California Ocean Plan, Inland Testing Manual, Basin Plans, and other pertinent regional receiving water quality criteria. As part of these projects, ADH routinely works in consultation with our clients and regulatory agencies including the USACE, Dredge Material Management Office (USACE SF District, USEPA Region 9, San Francisco Bay RWQCB, SWRCB, SF Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC), California Department of Fish & Game, and State Lands Commission), NOAA Fisheries, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and the California Coastal Commission.
